frequently asked questions

what is baptism?

At Quay Church, baptism is a powerful outward expression of an inward transformation. It is a public declaration that you’ve trusted Jesus for salvation and are choosing to follow Him with your life. Baptism symbolizes leaving behind your old way of life and being raised to new life in Christ – what the Apostle Paul describes as being “buried with Him in baptism, and raised to walk in newness of life” (Romans 6:4).

Baptism does not save us, only faith in Jesus brings salvation. But it is an act of obedience and celebration, modeled by Jesus Himself (Matthew 3:13-17) and commanded to His followers (Matthew 28:19-20). Through baptism, we joyfully identify with Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection.

what is believer’s baptism?

Believer’s baptism is the step of being baptized after you have placed your faith in Jesus and turned from your old way of life. It’s a way of going public with what God has done in you, declaring that Jesus is your Savior and King. If you’ve trusted Jesus, baptism is the next step of obedience He invites you to take.
